Emergency workers rescue a child from the scene of a collapsed building on Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State on July 11, 2020.
Our reporters gathered that the three-story building collapsed in the early hours of Saturday when the occupants were still asleep.
The Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the tragic incident to Our reporters that the remains of the dead victims have been transported to the mortuary, while the nine injured are being administered pre-hospital care by the agency.

Oke-Osanyintolu also explained that the victims comprise of a child and two adults, adding that the agency is leveling the ‘unstable’ structure to the ground.
“We were able to rescue nine people alive and we sympathise with the people that lost their loved ones in the incident. We recovered three bodies. The three bodies that were recovered have been deposited in the mortuary.
The officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), Ministry of Physical planning, Nigeria Police among other emergency workers were at the scene of the building collapse to perform their various duties.
