Nigerian Aircraft Leasing Company to Get 95% Funding From Private Investors — Keyamo
The new Nigerian aircraft leasing company is about to shake up Africa’s aviation scene. Minister Festus Keyamo dropped this big news on May 26, 2026. Private investors and development finance institutions will fund a massive 95 percent of the initiative.
Keyamo made this announcement during a meeting with Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) in Abuja. Several development finance institutions across Africa and beyond have already shown strong interest. Let that sink in — this thing is already attracting serious international money.

What Is the Nigerian Aircraft Leasing Company All About?
President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council recently approved a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for this initiative. The SPV will operate as a largely private sector-driven company. GossipShop breaks it down — the government is stepping back and letting investors lead.
However, the Federal Government is not completely walking away from this project. President Tinubu directed four ministers to ensure a smooth launch of the initiative. Those ministers cover Finance, Aviation, Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Attorney-General’s office.
Keyamo stated that government’s role focuses mainly on strategic support and sovereign guarantees. These guarantees will cover aircraft safety and repossession matters. The bulk of the real cash will flow in from private investors and development banks.
“The company will be substantially private,” Keyamo said confidently at the meeting. Investments of nearly 95 to 99 percent will come from outside government. That money will flow in through development banks and private investors locally and internationally.
Why Nigerian Airlines Desperately Need This Aircraft Leasing Initiative
And here is the thing — Nigerian airlines have struggled for years to access affordable aircraft financing. High lease costs and poor financing options have crippled local carriers badly. This new leasing company directly targets that painful problem head-on.
Furthermore, the SPV will acquire affordable aircraft and lease them to Nigerian airlines at better rates.
