2 caught by Police for ‘theft’ of telecom inverter batteries

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing mast inverter batteries belonging to a telecommunications company.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, gave the identities of the suspects as Preye Perekeme and England Ito.

He said that they were incepted on Saturday by men of the command at Igbogene, Yenagoa.

Butswat said their arrest followed a report that a telecom mast had been vandalised at Opokuma in the Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of the state and inverter batteries were stolen.

He said, “The suspects were intercepted by police operatives on 20 February 2021 at about 1045hours in a 14-seater Ford Bus with registration number ABN 413 YP and RAV 4 Toyota Jeep with registration number JJJ 975 GQ.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mike Okoli, has ordered full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
