The Kano State Police Command has arrested a man, who raped at least 40 women in one town within of a year.
The town was Dangora which is a small town in Kano state about 85 kilometres (56 miles) south-west of Kano city, this makes it difficult for police to access the area promptly.
The 30-year-old serial rapist, Mohammed, confessed that his victims were young girls, married women and old women of Dangora Village, according to Kano Police spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna,
He said, “It is true. We have him in our custody. We are parading him soon.”
Haruna said the suspect was arrested when he sneaked into a house to rape a young girl but the mother who was at alert raised the alarm, which forced him to escape.
He was, however, caught by neighbours, who tracked him down after the woman’s alarm blew off
The police said the suspect had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
Residents told the BBC that they had lived the last one year in fear, even in their own homes, because they had heard that a serial rapist was climbing fences and raping women indoors.
“They said we can now sleep with our eyes wide shut,” one woman told the BBC.
