Super Eagles Coach picks Ahmed Musa for AFCON qualifiers

Gernot Rohr has picked captain Ahmed Musa for forthcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho even though he is without a club and has not played for several months after he was released by Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

“The list is done, NFF will release the list soon,” Rohr said.

“We have a list of 23 plus captain Musa, six players on standby.”

Rohr has over time insisted that players who are not active in their clubs will not be considered for the national team.

However, he has now gone against such standard with the inclusion of Ahmed Musa on the squad for the games against Benin on March 27 and versus Lesotho three days later in Lagos.

The winger’s search for a new club after a shock departure from Saudi Arabia has not gone to plan after a proposed transfer to Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion crashed recently.

Ahmed Musa is pressing hard to become only the third Nigerian player to win a century of international caps after Vincent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo.
