Edo prison Inmate Who Escaped From During EndSARS Protests Re-arrested

The Ogun State Police Command said its men have arrested an inmate, Obehi Ehis Frank Ogbeh, who escaped from the prison in Benin, Edo State during the EndSARS protests in October 2020.

Ogbeh escaped from the White House prison in Edo State during the EndSARS protests when hoodlums attacked the facility and freed inmates there.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Wednesday that the prison inmate had been arrested in the state.

He said his arrest was made possible due to an intelligence received by policemen at Agbado Divisional Headquarters, that a middle-aged man was seen around the Angulis area of Agbado.

He added that the people told the policemen that the person’s looks and conduct were suspicious hence they alerted the police.

The PPRO said, “Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, detailed detectives to the area, where the man was apprehended.

“When interrogated, Ogbeh confessed to being an escapee from the White House Prison in Edo State.
He also opened up that he was set free by hoodlums, who attacked the prison yard during the EndSARS protests.

“He further confessed that he relocated to Agbado area, in order to avoid being re-arrested.”

Oyeyemi stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward A. Ajogun, had directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for further profiling.
