– The Nigerian police recently paraded two kidnap gangs in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja – Interestingly, a leader of one of the gangs kidnapped the leader of another gang – The kidnapper kidnapped was said to have been a member of the other gang before he broke out to form his own criminal unit.
A report indicates that a notorious kidnapper in Abuja simply known as Mohammed Amodu was kidnapped by another kidnapper, Buba Babu, 35, and had to pay N1, 555, 000 for his freedom.
According to the report, the information was revealed by the police headquarters spokesman, CP Frank Mba during a press briefing in the Nigerian capital. Mba who paraded both kidnappers alongside other criminals on Monday, January 11 said Babu was notorious for kidnapping citizens on highways around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Babu, he said, was third in command of a kidnap syndicated headed by one Buji, who was neutralized by the police alongside the second in command. Mba said Babu took leadership of the gang and was notorious for always killing kidnap victims, adding that Babu took Amodu into custody and when the kidnapped kidnapper hesitated to pay, he was shot in the arm. Amodu, Mba said, was known as a reputed marksman in the underworld but added:
“Yet he was kidnapped and held and was released after he paid N1.55 million.”
Meanwhile, Comrade Shehu Shugabi Yar’adua, the president, painted Abuja Taxi, has revealed steps taken by the union to address the incessant cases of illegal drivers in the FCT. Comrade Yar’adua made the disclosure to Legit.ng on Wednesday, January 6 as the union signed a partnership with a ride-hailing app soon to be launched in Abuja.
He said steps have been taken to address the influx of alien drivers into Abuja which has heightened insecurity in the city, including the notorious ‘one chance’ operators. In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mandated the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for the processing of driver’s license. The agency made the announcement recently in a statement posted on its social media pages and signed by an Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem.
Stressing that there would be no waiver for anyone, Kazeem emphasised the need for a harmonised database of all citizens and described it as critical to resolving security challenges in the country.
